As we are now, Equorum is set up in a manner where there is one herd that controls territory(ies) and is led under the ruling of both a King and Queen. Now, below this come the Royal council: The Vicereine, Odvah, Citel, and Couvrir. These horses have the right to live wherever they please on the territory (with the King's consent, of course), and may take a mate should the King allow it. These four members are guides, advisers, and councilors. The Vicereine holds the place of being the Queen should the current one die, and a mare can only be made Vicereine if the King declares her so. Now, the King can breed to any of his mares (though most respect the unwritten rules of mares and stallions being together), but the Vicereine and Queen are like his top chicas. They are the bearers of the Royal children, and so on so forth. The Vicereine is one with the herd: she keeps track of members, helps when needed, and befriends everyone. The Odvah is the Spiritual Guide: his/her job is to aide horses in any way possible. They tend to read the skies, or tell the Kings of what they see -- it honestly varies with the horse. All Royal Council ranks are given to horses by the King. The have to earn them, and a horse must be at least 4 before they can even be considered. The Citel is the horse who goes around studying and experimenting with plants in order to discover ways to heal horses in various ailments. They are usually a philosophical type, and they heal both physical and mental wounds (somewhat like the Odvah, yet not through the spirits and beliefs). The Couvrir is the Guardian of the herd, the one who uses tactic and aides the King in moves and decisions on anything regarding wars or disputes. They are also the eyes of the herd, always keeping watch. Couvrir is the protector.
The herd is also set up to accept all horses, both male and female. It is the King's choice whether or not to take in certain horses, as well as whether or not to kick out colts when they mature and start looking at mares in a whole new way.
Upon the territory are allowed Harems, but only if the King allows it. A Harem consists of one or two stallions, and the rest are mares and foals. All colts who reach the age of two and a half are kicked out. No exceptions. The Harem leader must abide by the King's stipulations (which can be anything he wants) in order to live on the land.
Now, outside of the lands, into the Free Lands reside Bands and Unclaimed mares. The Free Lands are split up so that Bachelors have land to themselves and mares have land to themselves. However, there is also a land meeting around the middle of the valley where both genders can be found. A Band consists solely of Bachelor horses who 'band' together and are led by one or two dominant males. Dominance can be decided in any manner, and can be challenged at any time. Bachelors can come and raid a territory's herd or harem as well, but they must understand that he stallions leading said herds and harems will not just sit idly by and watch everything happen (unless they're pretty messed up in the mind, which I can't say isn't possible).
Unclaimed mares can also group together on their land so they can help fend off stallions and predators, or they can live alone.
