There was a song on the wind. A melody that would sooth any soul. A peaceful tune to relax even the most tense of beings. It drifted slowly through the abundant trees, finding the ears of a black stallion as if drawn to them. It was something he needed, that relaxation brought by a simple, little bird somewhere off in the forest. The tension he always held faded slowly, his usual and absurd state of alertness brought down to that of a normal horse. For the first time in a long time, he was truly calm. For the first time in a long time, he didn’t feel the need to hide. Surely, though, it wasn’t just the little bird doing this to him? Probably not. For so long he had been on edge, fearing the return of his brother. He never came though. Had he began to think it would never happen?
Shaking his head, the male slowly walked through his woods. This was the first time he had come here in weeks, for he’d been much to paranoid to leave his caves for quite a while. Now though, as he glanced at every familiar tree and rock, he suddenly realized how much he missed it.
But there was another sound out there, and the bird song suddenly faded. In a panic, he saw the creature swoosh by his head and out of sight, as if it had witnessed something terrifying. Socrates stared in the direction it had fled, confused and cautious, yet remaining relatively calm. Head turned slowly towards the other sound. It was very faint, yet his sensitive ears caught it. It sounded like footfall. Was there an intruder on his lands?
