//Jaximus
A great yawn had the large stallion's jaws spreading as wide as it was limited to as he lay in a huge meadow of tall grass that barely managed to conceal his thickly muscled legs and almost to the top of his flanks. His head hung low, neck occasionally stretching so that he could grab another mouthful of the deliciously sweet grass, as fresh as the year. The winds that blew over the terrain still was a bit low in temperature, but that didn't bother the bulky brute resting in the grass. The biggest thing that gave him away was the long trail he'd created when he'd made his way here. Jax's hooves were large, in proportion to his body, and did not tread well enough not to leave some sort of sign of his passing. Such was part of being so large. That trail was the only way the chestnut pangare stallion knew where he'd been before arriving at exactly the spot he lay with his legs tucked under him beside his robust chest and belly. Munching his next mouthful, he turned his thick skull round to view that very trail. Swallowing, he tilted his head. He wondered where that trail lead back to. He should know, since it's where he came from, but he couldn't remember. Squinting his big brown eyes as if that would help him, he thought hard -- but drew a huge blank.
Oh well.. What did it matter, really, where he'd been. It only mattered where he was going. Only.. He couldn't remember that, either. With a huff, the brawny brute laid out fully on his side, looking up at the sky. The sun had yet to reach its peak, only having risen a few hours ago. How long had it been since he was home? Where was home? Did his parents worry? Did he even have parents anymore? These were questions that plagued his mind often, even if he forgot again a couple days later, which only led to them being re-pondered in his mind. Questions he wished he could remember the answer to. Such was simply his burden; his memory was awful. It was like it refreshed itself to a blank slate every few days. Sometimes he'd remember little things. Special things. Even small details of things that he had no other recollection of: a face, an image, a blur of events, a voice. Often, he hated himself for not remembering things. Why was it so hard? But after a time, he simply resigned to the way his brain worked. After all, if he lingered on these thoughts too long, attempting to delve deeper into his near-nonexistent memories, he got the worst sort of pain in his head that would start as a little pinch then grow into a twisting burn. Like just now. Jax clenched his eyes shut against the pain and when they opened again, a tear welled within each lower lid. Sometimes the pain got this bad, enough to make his eyes water. So, he stopped thinking for a time, laying there, letting his eyes drift over the clouds as they played slowly across the sky.
He sighed, unmoved when a rabbit found its way into the little clearing in the grass that was created by such a large body that belonged to Jaximus. He heard it there, smelled it even, but didn't look up. Just watched the clouds. The rabbit tucked itself down, beginning to clean its ears, and then Jax looked up, curiosity taking over. He watched it, while it watched him back even as it ran little tiny paws over those long ears. The two of them sat there like that for a time, just staring at one another. The giant of a stallion reached over to lip up another mouthful of grass and munched, then watched as the rabbit snatched up a blade or two for itself. Jax chuckled then, for no real reason, and the sudden sound had the rodent flinching, but it didn't run. With a smile on his face, the brute rocked back up onto his belly, but for whatever reason that had the critter scampering back into the grass. Ears pricked forward as he listened to its plump little body retreating into the bushes some short distance away. This slightly disappointed Jaximus, as he didn't truly desire to be alone. When was the last time he'd had company? When was the last time he'd even spoken a word in edgewise to anyone? The little pinching sensation started up again. He couldn't remember. With a melancholy sigh, the stallion rocked up to his feet before stretching out his large body and thick, long legs. Shaking off any debris he may have caught up from his resting place, his creamy mane flipped back and forth over his neck. His swished his mid-length tail, flicking at a burr that had caught in his flank. He itched all over as he was beginning to shed all the fuzz he'd grown from winter, and would be happy to find a tree, or perhaps someone to help groom him in a place over his back that he could never quite reach. Jax grunted at the unlikely-hood of that as he quickly surveyed the plains around him, but then began to head to the nearest tree. It would be a good some-odd-mile walk, but it would be worth it.
