Carolus Rex ______________________________________
The Jungle King did not know why he had come to the outer edges of his kingdom. His dark chocolate colored eyes started at the naturally made land bridge that connected his lands to that of his ally’s; to the caverns of Covell. It was not a secret that he and the Cavern King, Socrates, were allies. How could they not? They had grown up together as foals and played with each other until they grew to be too old to “play”. Their parents had been close, so it was only natural that the previous Kings and Queens of Covell and Baandarois would arrange play dates between their heirs. With their alliance, the Cavern King would direct any equines who sought to join the Jungle King in Baandarois as safely as he could. For that much Rex was thankful for. If he and the Cavern King had not agreed to an alliance, he would be faced with much difficulty when it came to acquiring new members.
The appaloosa stallion sighed softly, his gaze dropping from the land bridge as his ears laid back. His lands were empty besides him – a problem that needed to be addressed as quickly as possible. The Jungle King had warned the previous members against the dangers of wandering through Makaan, given the number of predators that prowled through the thickest part of the jungle. Most did not heed the young King’s warnings and went in anyways, typically in pairs. Though some were too stubborn to take another with them and went alone...And never came back. Rex could only assume that those who did not return perished within the heart of the jungle, or they simply left the jungle kingdom and their King behind.
He knew he would have to leave his jungle home, eventually, to bring new members back to Baandarois. However, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Something was telling the appaloosa stallion to stay put, at least for the time being. Something had drawn him to the entrance of his jungle kingdom, but he did not know what. All he could do was stand around, wondering if whatever he was supposed to wait for would come.

HERON and MACHIAMIA. [/size] It wasn't like she was new to these lands, or anything. No, that wasn't the case at all. If anything, the little filly alongside her was the newest to the Jungle. During her visit to her sister on the Mainland, Heron had encountered this little spunk of a filly -- starving, wary, and pitiful. Naturally, her motherly instinct kicked in quickly and well... the rest was history. Now this little filly was growing like grass under constant rain and care, her legs like spider's and her mind unmatched in curiosity. She had a.. strange way of thought, also. Mostly it humored the bay mare, but if she would actually take time to think things over and see the truth...
Machiamia had started her day off with a bang. This area thrilled her fascination more than any place ever could have. The filly was bounding at the side of her 'mother' bright-eyed and bushy-tailed -- like a bunny in spring. Her eyes glistened, and her hooves couldn't remain on the ground for long. They pushed through the foliage with more ease this time around -- again, it wasn't like they were newcomers. Machia couldn't understand what Heron was doing, taking them around here.. but it didn't really matter -- she'd follow the mare anywhere for now. The filly's tail lashed over her back several times as she poked her nose into anything and everything she could catch in her vision. Heron simply sighed with a smile before guiding the young one in a different direction. "Come, Mach. Hopefully we'll find the King today." She cooed with a smile, her eyes soft and gentle. She was a true mother. Machia grinned before bounding after her, almost slamming into the mare's side in her fumbliness. "Why are we looking for the King, Heron?" Heron'd never been the one to make Mach call her 'mother'.
To this, the mare could only smile. "Why, because we don't want to be left all alone here, do we? We're members of his herd -- we have a duty to report to him so he knows we're alright." It wasn't the most convincing answer, but Mach accepted it with a curt nod nonetheless. Snorting lightly, the filly broke out into a lanky canter. A shrill whinny hit the air, echoing through the trees -- followed by an abrupt and repetitive oof!. Mach had disappeared around the bend of a couple of tree trunks, and Heron was nothing less than curious. Craning her neck out to try to see her before bringing herself into a trot as well, the dark mare quickly seen what was happening -- and her expression was expectantly one of disbelief and amusement.
"Mach, what are you doing?" A light wuffle seeped from her lips as she cocked a hip, but the tobiano didn't hesitate in her actions for long. Through grunts and huffs, the filly called back over her shoulder. "I -- found -- t-this -- squirrel," Panting now, and sliding down the side of the trunk into the little nest at the roots, the filly tossed her head back to look at Heron. A large snort escaped her nostrils. "But, it ran away from me! All I wanted to do was play!" Upset, the filly looked back up the tree with wide eyes. "Come baaaaaack!" She whimpered softly.
With a soft chuckle, the mare walked toward her young one and pushed her nose into Machia's shoulder. "There there. Plenty of squirrels litter this place -- those, and many more creatures! You should know this, Mach." Sighing softly as the filly blinked, Heron took a couple of moments to reassure her before walking off again. Another call over her shoulder and a bounce to her amble: "C'mon, Mach!" After a rough shake of her head, followed by a harsh snort, the filly pushed herself to her hooves and bounded after her again, casting a quick look back at the tree to make sure that the squirrel didn't return by any chance.
